Junior Tennis

Junior Tennis clinics resume in the Fall.  Summer camps running now through September 1st. Click here to view our Summer Camp Schedule.

Let the professionals at Penn Oaks help your children grow to love the game of tennis!

The PO Junior Tennis Development program presents the best tennis environment and instruction for players 12 and under through high school using the following guidelines:
  • Courts are smaller and easier to cover
  • Balls bounce lower and move slower through the air, making them easier to hit
  • Three levels of tennis balls: for kids 8 and under, 9 to 12 years olds and over 12
  • Racquets sized for small hands that are easier to grip and swing
  • New scoring rules that allow for more and shorter matches
  • Players will transition to the bigger court with more confidence
  • For the older players emphasis will continue on mastering all strokes, add conditioning and match play strategies

Munchkins (4-6 yr olds)

A beginning program designed to introduce young players to the game of tennis in a fun and exciting format! Drills and games are combined to help develop hand-eye coordination and balance while learning the basic strokes of tennis. Backhands, forehands, volleys, serves and overheads are covered throughout the session. These skills and more will be taught and reinforced through activities using the foam  tennis balls.   The foam balls bounce lower and travel less distance which allows the child to have proper swing technique with the ball bouncing into their comfort zones.  The court is smaller – 36’x8′ and the net is 3″ lower.  Students racquet sizes up to 23″.  Scoring is best of 3 games with the first player to 7 points wins the game.

Classes Offered
Monday: 4:30 – 5:30 pm
Saturday: 10:30 – 11:30 am

Hot Shots (7-10 yr olds)

Students will learn all of the strokes in tennis, learn how to play the game of tennis, learn to rally and play out points. The use of the Orange Dot 10 and under tennis ball travels a little faster than the foam ball but will still have lower bounce than the standard ball.  The court size is still smaller at 60’x21′.   Racquet sizes are up to 25″.  Scoring becomes best of 3 sets with 4 games winning a set and a 3rd set is first to 7 points.   The goal is to transition our students into a Hot Shot Elite Clinic where point play and stroke production become the major focus.
Recommended Match Play: Saturday 1:00– 3:00 pm $25.00  Contact Jonathan Hodess (email shwing654@aol.com) to be added to the match play list.

Hot Shots Elite (7-12 yr olds)

For students 11-12 who are new to the game, beginner instruction will be tailored to develop forehands, backhands, volley, overheads, serves and learn match scoring and participate in match play.   For students who have progressed from Hot Shots more focus will be stressed on developing strokes – Learn top spin, back spin and ball placement. Students will also learn basic strategies for doubles play vs. singles play.  A bigger emphasis will be put on developing a serve. This class uses a yellow low compression ball with a green dot.  The ball is slower and lower bouncing than the yellow ball.  This helps players to continue to develop good techniques and movement.  Play is on the regular size court and regular scoring.  The goal is to transition our students into the  Tournament Training Clinic, as well as start them in Match Play.
Recommended Match Play: Saturday 1:00 – 3:00 pm $25.  Contact Johnathan Hodess (shwing654@aol.com) to be added to the match play list.
